A lot of the time, diets really aren’t that healthy although you are able to lose weight. Most diets actually harm your body because they usually restrict certain food groups, like carbohydrates and sweets, or depends on using supplements that have some type of scientific backing or cuts down calorie consumption to little or nothing.
There are so many people who are so desperate to lose weight and when desperation sets in, a lot of normal, rational thinking just disappears. As long as the pounds are coming off, most people remain happy emotionally but physically your body will be crying for help.
Not only is the American diet what causes people to usually go on unhealthy diets, but it is that bad that we now have to start looking to other countries for help when it comes to slimming our stomachs and toning our thighs. It’s easy to notice even with Americanized ethnic cuisine that those across seas tend food rich in nutrition in comparison to Americans. Currently the life span for Americans falls somewhere at age 78 with a 36.5% obesity rate in comparison to an 82-year life expectancy and a 1.5% obesity rate for those in Japan.
Most of the countries that have low obesity rates and higher life expectancies have diets that are low in fat; rich in fish, lean protein, vegetables, fruits and beans. Plant-based diets can reduce cholesterol levels, while fruits and vegetables also contain antioxidants that can protect against cancer. Many of traditional diets include small amounts of red, processed and salt-cured meats whose consumption can increase the risk of colorectal and stomach cancers. Most of these countries also practice portion control, something that Americans have yet to learn.
If Americans were to model their diets after these countries where people have a higher life expectancy and a low obesity rate, dieting would remain healthy and be a lifestyle change rather than a quick fix where the pounds are then packed on again later.
